English Language requirement for admission
Bachelor's, Single cycle and Master's degree programmes
Academic year 2025-2026
A minimum level of English language proficiency is required for study courses taught in English and for some courses taught in Italian. It is indicated in each Call for admissions:
- Which level is required for admission, B1 or B2 (CEFR);
- What are the deadlines for meeting the requirement;
- How the requirement can be met. This page shows the procedures common to all courses; any additional procedures are shown in the relevant Call for admissions.
Verification of the language requirement
Alternative 1
Language certification
Certifications must be submitted in the manner and by the deadlines specified in the notices and notices of admission (in italian).
The certification must be attached, front and back, within the procedure. Those who have taken the test and have not yet received the certificate may present the provisional statement of results issued by the certifying body.
The only certifications accepted are those listed below, with reference to the minimum scores that vary for courses and curricula delivered in Italian or English.
Alternative 2
Qualification of a course delivered entirely in English
Degrees accepted are those relating to a Bachelor's degree, Combined Bachelor and Master of Science degree, or equivalent (foreign degrees or previous regulations); it is not sufficient to have completed part of the course abroad.
Proof of qualification must be provided by submitting, in accordance with the procedures and deadlines specified in the notices and notices of admission (in italian), self-certification with examinations or the supplementary diploma issued by the university where it was obtained.
If the qualification in question (submitted for the sole purpose of passing the language requirement) was obtained abroad, the Transcript of Records and the final diploma of achievement are required.
In all cases, the course language must be explicitly stated in the documentation. Otherwise, an official document issued by the university stating the language of the course must be attached.
Alternative 3
Mother tongue English
Native speakers are considered to be those who hold an identity document indicating one of the following nationalities (dual citizenship is also considered valid in this respect): Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Malta, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, USA.
In order to prove that you are a native speaker, you must enclose an identity document stating that you possess the citizenship in question, in the manner and by the deadlines specified in the notices and notices of admission (in italian).
Further alternatives
Some study courses may provide further alternatives in addition to what is stated on this page to fulfil the language requirement. To find out about them, you should check the relevant announcement or notice of admission (in italian).
